Another "ByteDance-affiliated" AI guru emerges.
Yang Hongxia, a senior language model development expert at ByteDance, recently resigned and started preparing for an entrepreneurship project on artificial intelligence. It is known that she was previously in charge of several important R&D tasks at ByteDance and had served as the technical leader for the massively multimodal pre-trained M6 model at Alibaba's DAMO Academy, playing a key role in the model's evolution from tens of billions to trillions of parameters.
Following the domestic stir caused by ChatGPT in early 2023, the entire industry began to enter a period of craving for technically skilled talent. During this time, ByteDance started to actively expand its talent team and strived to develop its research and development work in the area of large language and multimodal models. Yang Hongxia later joined ByteDance's AML (Applied Machine Learning) team, reported to team leader Xiang Liang, and engaged in related R&D work in Seattle, USA.
The industry focus has gradually shifted from the development of models to the practical application and implementation of these technologies. With the breakthrough progress of the Suno audio model and Sora video model in 2024, the capital market's interest in the AI industry surged once again, leading many technical experts to seize the opportunity to start businesses and obtain investment. In addition, several technical leaders from ByteDance, like Wang Changhu, the video technology head, also started their own companies in 2023 and received significant investments.
As a research-oriented technical talent, Yang Hongxia has also stepped into the entrepreneurial field. In this new journey, she will face challenges in team building, company operations, product development, and market marketing.
